Aviation Gin Cocktail

This is a class, pre-prohibition favorite cocktail, so you know it’s easily one of Molly’s Spirits favorite gin drinks. This is a delicious and smooth gin cocktail that gets its name from iits sky blue color, making it ideal to serve up in a martini or classic cocktail glass – just be sure the glass is chilled before pouring in the libation. This classic Aviation cocktail recipe serves one.

Bar supplies

  • Cocktail Shaker
  • Jigger
  • Martini glass (chilled)
  • Stirring spoon (optional)
  • Ice
Ingredients Amount
Cap Rock Gin 2 ounces
Maraschino Liqueur 0.5 ounces
Creme de Violette 0.25 ounces
Lemon juice 0.75 ounces

Filled cocktail shaker with ice then pour in gin, maraschino liqueur, creme de violet and lemon juice. Remember to cover the shaker then shake the shaker: one-handed if you’re too cool to rule or two-handed if you’re more of a traditionalist. If you’re really a traditionalist, use the stirring spoon to stir the ingredients rather than shaking them – and because you know James Bond always had it wrong. Pour into chilled martini glass, garnish with either a maraschino cherry, a lemon twist, or both. Enjoy.

A Twist:

One fun twist for this Aviation gin martini, courtesy of the Molly’s Spirits spirits department, is to not add the creme de violette in the shaker with the other ingredients but rather float it on top once you’ve poured the shaken ingredients into the glass.
