District 7 wine - august wine of the month

District 7 Wines | August Wine of the Month

Before we dive into District 7 Wines (our August Winery Spotlight) we are excited to announce we have a NEW WINE OF THE MONTH PROGRAM. We’ve had a Wine of the Month program for awhile now, but we are relaunching. New format + new pricing structure = better deals for you.

Our new Wine of the Month format will have wines featured at $12.98/ea. Similarly to how we always have $6.99/6pks for our Beer of the Month program, our Wine(s) of the Month will always be $12.98! Expect to come into our store and get a killer deal on carefully curated, quality wines that rotate monthly for $12.98/ea.

SO….without further adieu, the first winery we’re featuring for our new and improved Wine of the Month initiative is District 7 Wines.

District 7 wine - august wine of the month

Vineyard Spotlight – From the Winery:

California has 17 grape crushing districts. Monterey County is number 7. Wine experts recognize our home as one of the most beautiful and diverse wine growing regions in the world. The distinctive geography, climate and soils lead to wines that are complex, elegant and most importantly, delicious. District 7 is Monterey.

Monterey County is a good place to call home. In addition to its stunning scenery, diverse recreation and relaxed lifestyle, it offers a wide range of terroirs to grow both cold- and warm-climate grapes. Incredible properties allow us to produce a range of wines that are true to variety and site. All of our estate vineyards are officially certified by the California Sustainable Winegrowing Alliance(CSWA), a statewide certification program that provides third-party verification of a winery’s commitment to sustainable wine growing practices. Driving our efforts at District 7 is a core belief that the best wines come from vineyards and ecosystems that are in balance. For decades, we have been at the forefront of innovation and applied technology in our vineyards to improve wine quality while reducing water use, shrinking our carbon footprint, and advancing sustainability.

Vineyard Spotlight – From Molly’s Staff:

We are in constant search of wines that are varietally correct, balanced, delicious and still fit into our retirement plan. For the Month of August we are excited to offer you District 7 wines as our Wines of the Month. We have long been fans of the way that the Monterey Bay regulates temperatures in District 7. Morning fog, sunny afternoons and cool nights set up excellent ripeness and freshness as grapes develop in the vineyard.

District 7 Sauvignon Blanc sports a nice bright tropical nose. The palate finds excellent tension between ripe tropical fruit and citrusy freshness. The finish is clean and crisp. Textbook Monterey style.

District 7 Chardonnay is a traditional California Chard which marries oak influence to ripe orchard fruit components. The nose abounds with vanilla and baked apple pie while the palate is rich with flavors of ripe apples, pears and citrus fruit. The wine finishes clean and tempting you to take another sip.

District 7 Pinot Noir offers the balance and elegance that we look for in Pinot Noir. The aromas and flavors are a montage of red & black cherry, ripe raspberries and a zesty pomegranate component. The cooling effect of the Monterey Bay is important in keeping this wine fresh.

District 7 Cabernet Sauvignon is the bruiser of the line-up, but this big guy can still dance with finesse. Ripe black cherry fruit is intertwined with subtle oak components resulting in silky, substantive and complete offering of fruit, mocha and vanilla.

Denver Art Museum Uncorked Reserve Wine Tasting

Denver Art Museum’s 2018 Uncorked Reserve Wine Pairings

Molly’s was once again a proud sponsor of Uncorked Reserve and Uncorked AFTERGLO, the Denver Art Museum’s two-tiered spring fundraising event celebrating two of our favorite things – wine and creativity! The evening raised funds to support the Denver Art Museum’s groundbreaking exhibitions and creative programming. Uncorked Reserve includes a silent auction cocktail reception followed by a fabulous four-course seated dinner featuring exquisite wine pairings with each course. Following the dinner, Reserve guests headed to Uncorked AFTERGLO, a party featuring art activations by local creatives, live music and artistic treats and cocktails.

The wines served at this year’s event were all chosen in collaboration with our wonderful supplier partners: Hope Estate, Da Luca, Enotec Imports, The Prisoner Wine Company, B Side Soulful North Coast Wine, and Vini Pavan. Next time you’re in the store look for the shelf tags indicating the wine was a part of Uncorked Reserve!

**Join us at the Molly’s tasting bar on Friday, April 20th 4-6PM for a special wine tasting featuring four wines served at Uncorked: Da Luca Prosecco, Marchesini Chiaretto Rosé, B Side Cabernet, and Pavan Dolce Moscato (pictured below).**

Denver Art Museum Uncorked Reserve Wines

Cocktail Reception

HOPE FAMILY ESTATE WINES CHARDONNAY

HOPE FAMILY ESTATE WINES SEMILLON
Hunter Valley, Australia

“This special batch of Hunter Semillon has been carefully aged to develop the sought after honey, toasty and lanolin characters of the traditional Hunter style. The wine has ample palate weight and will appeal to the red wine drinker.”

MARCHESINI CHIARETTO ROSE
Bardolino, Veneto, Italy Was $14.98 | NOW $7.98

“Chiaretto is the most famous name for rosé wines in Italy and can only be made from the Bardolino zone bordering beautiful Lake Garda in the Veneto region of northern Italy. The ‘lake effect’ generates ample ripeness in the Corvina and Rondinella grapes. This gives the wine great aromatics and good density on the palate. This dry rosé wine is fruity, fragrant and delicate with aromas of peach-blossoms.”

Paired with: Pickled Cauliflower & Gem Lettuce Salad
Location: Lane 2, Aisle B

Entree

B SIDE CABERNET SAUVIGNON

A ripe, rich and layered glass of wine abundant with bold fruit flavors and subtle nuances of toffee, espresso and dark chocolate. This wine reflects its origin, with powerful structure, firm tannins and a perfectly integrated finish.”

Paired with: Angus Sliced Tenderloin
Location: Lane 6, Aisle B

THE PRISONER RED BLEND
Napa Valley, California Was $49.98 | NOW $44.98

Dessert Course

PAVAN DOLCE MOSCATO

6 rosés to kick off spring

6 Rosés To Kick Off Spring

6 rosés to kick off spring

If we were writing this post last year, we probably would have lead with something like “Our favorite time of year is here!” or “Suns out, rosés out!”, but I think by now we’ve all decided that rosé can and should be enjoyed year round (Martha Stewart is on board). Even better news – the 2017 vintages are here and Lane 2 is head-to-toe pink. Don’t know where to begin? Our wine experts have selected six 2017 rosés they’re pretty excited about.

2017 MAISON NOIR LOVE DRUNK ROSÉ
Oregon Was $18.98 | NOW $16.98

“The 2017 Love Drunk is an intoxicating rosé. Much like new love, it clouds the brain, causes eyes to sparkle, cheeks to glow, blood pressure to rise, and lips to pucker. Provocative aromas of strawberry and raspberry, followed by refreshing flavors of wild strawberry, watermelon rind, and a hint of kiwi.” – Maison Noir Wines

Wine style: Chardonnay/Pinot Noir
Wine style: Crisp and dry
Pair with: Salmon burgers or watermelon with feta and mint

2017 RODNEY STRONG ROSÉ OF PINOT NOIR
Russian River Valley, Sonoma County, California Was $23.98 | NOW $19.98

Pair with: Light salads, light pasta and rice dishes, seafood, shellfish, grilled fish, and goats’ cheeses.

2017 DAY OWL ROSÉ
California Was $14.98 | NOW $11.98

“Barbera is the primary varietal in Day Owl Rosé. Like the best things in life, this Italian varietal is meant to be enjoyed young (aka now), so seize the moment. Bright, citrusy, and effortlessly cool, this versatile wine pairs perfectly with whatever the day throws at it. Day Owl Rosé radiates with floral red fruit and vibrant orange zest vibes. Lively acidity and a dry, elegant finish make for a bold bottle as alluring as the day is long.” – Day Owl

Grape/Blend: Barbera
Wine style: Rich and fruity
Pair with: Barbecued chicken, watermelon and mint salad, cold Thai sesame noodles, or fresh fish tacos.

2017 MULDERBOSCH CABERNET SAUVIGNON ROSÉ
South Africa Was $13.98 | NOW $11.98

“It’s hard not to feel excited by the appearance of the 2017 Mulderbosch Rosé. It’s very much alive and energised. The colour is lighter and brighter than previous vintages. An attractive confected cherry note greets the nose, followed by subtle rose petal aromatics and a crisp mineral note that holds it all together nicely. Due to careful selection of vineyard sites and gentle fruit handling in the cellar the palate has an effortless poise about it. Sweet-fruited Cabernet flavours and early-picked natural acidity make for an intense palate that refreshes with each sip.” – Mulderbosch Vineyards

Wine style: Cabernet Sauvignon
Wine style: Rich and fruity
Pair with: Barbecue and for drinking with spicy food such as curries

2017 HONORO VERA ROSÉ
Jumilla, Spain Was $10.98 | NOW $8.98

France Was $21.98 | NOW $16.98

Pair with: While the food pairing options are almost endless, try this crisp and dry rose with a salad or green veggies

ANIMAL NATURAL VINEYARDS MALBEC

“This organic Malbec is expressively fruity and fresh. With notes of plums, cherries, blackberries, and currants. In the mouth it unleashes its full potential, combining soft tannins with an elegant and personal structure.” – Vineyard Brands

Pair with: Leaner red meats, even lighter cuts like dark meat turkey or roasted pork, and portobello mushrooms. But don’t stop there! “The pairing secret of Malbec is that it works well with pepper, sage, creamy mushroom sauces, melted cheese, and in particular, blue cheese.” – Wine Folly

DONATELLA CINELLI COLOMBINI ROSSO DI MONTALCINO
Italy $28.99

“Dark ruby red. On the nose, hints of small red fruits that linger at length. Intense, harmonious, reasonably warm and suitably tannic on the palate.” – Donatella Cinelli Colombini

Pair with: “Sangiovese pairs with a wide range of foods because of its medium weighted body and savory character. Use Sangiovese’s savory as a congruent flavor with herbs and tomatoes. – Wine Folly One word comes to mind when I hear herbs and tomatoes – pizza!!
