Les Costières de Pomérols Thu, Dec 01, 22 | molly's spotlight Behind The Vine The Vineyard Founded in 1932, this Cave Coopérative is located in the top communeof Pomérols — near Montpellier in the South of France. The vineyard sits between the garrigue, or low-growing vegetation on the limestone hills of the Mediterranean coast, in Pézenas and the Mont Saint-Clair in Sète. The members of the cooperative control 2,964 acres of vineyard land, where they produce Piquepoul, Chardonnay, Viognier, Sauvignon Blanc, Terret, Merlot, Cabernet, Syrah, Grenache, Cinsault and Carignan. The property features 3 main buildings – one for bottling/packaging, a second where white wines are vinified and the third (and newest) building where they make red and rosé wines. They have an underground cave with 300 oak barrels for barrel aging. The Location The Pomérols vineyards are planted on clay and limestone hillsides called “costières” bordering the Étang de Thau, the largest in a string of lagoons that stretch along the Southern coast of France. The unique coastal climate of this lagoon, combined with the brand’s sustainable vinicultural practices, makes for an excellent rosé. What to Know About This Wine Pomerols H.B.
