March Cocktail of the Month - The Irish Chocolate Old Fashioned

Wed, Mar 13, 24

Welcome to March!  We’re back with a delectable St. Patrick’s Day-themed cocktail this month: the Irish Chocolate Old Fashioned. You don’t have to be Irish to enjoy this cocktail, let alone wearing green! The flavors of this cocktail are enough to bring the Irish spirit with lots of joy and a warmth to welcome Spring and for you to enjoy your best month possible.  The cocktail brings layers of the chocolate, honey, sweet cherries, and vanilla that mixes well with the bitters-giving way to honeysuckle and spice.  With flashes of warmth this month and some cold fronts,  this drink is a fantastic ending from the day on the slopes or a night at home watching the sunset. This cocktail was created with the St. Patrick’s holiday in mind with a slightly elevated twist, courtesy of Justin-our Spirits Manager from our Lakeside location.

All of the ingredients (but the Turbinado sugar) are available at both locations, in Lakeside and Greenwood Village.  If you happen to have made this cocktail and make a stop at our Lakeside location, let Justin know your thoughts on it!

Cheers!

Ingredients:

2 oz Slane Irish Whiskey

3 dashes of Angostura Cocoa bitters

1 tsp Turbinado Sugar

2 Luxardo cherries (because they're delicious and you know you want more than one)

Directions:

  1. Pour bitters, sugar, and 1 tsp of luxardo cherry syrup into a whiskey glass

  2. Muddle ingredients then add whiskey

  3. Add a large ice cube or half-a-handful of regular sizes ice cubes

  4. Stir to chill

  5. Garnish with cherries

When finished, your cocktail should have beautiful red-golden hues. The cocoa flavor of the bitters playfully accentuates the dark fruit Palate of Slane giving a sweet Irish treat to help celebrate St. Paddy's or enjoy it on a random Monday in March! We notice a sweet and savory mouth feel that offers a citrus and sweet finish.  Sláinte!
