Laws Four Grain Straight Bourbon is crafted from 60% corn, 20% wheat, 10% malted barley and 10% rye and aged 3 years and 1 month in new American white oak barrels. There aren’t many four grain bourbons on the market because they are difficult to make (individual varietals require different cooking temperatures and durations to maximize flavor), but A.D. Laws applies a “there are no shortcuts” philosophy to each batch of whiskey produced. Each batch is milled, cooked, fermented, distilled, and aged on-site, utilizing heirloom grains from family-owned Colorado farms. 2. DEL MAGUEY VIDA MEZCAL$35.99/750ml Del Maguey VIDA is fruit-forward, easy sipping, and at an entry-level price point, it is an approachable introduction to mezcal. It has a nose of fruit, a hint of honey, vanilla and roast agave; the palate offers ginger, cinnamon, burnt sandalwood, banana and tangerine, with a long, soft finish. It can be enjoyed on its own, but its flavor profile makes it great for cocktails. Del Maquey mezcals are twice distilled and unblended from 100% mature agave Espadin and are produced in the original, 500-year-old, hand-crafted, artisanal way. There are no chemicals, colorings, or additives. 3. TRÄ-KÁL: THE SPIRIT OF PATAGONIA$33.99/750ml TRÄ-KÁL is a totally new type of spirit derived solely from native Patagonian ingredients! All of the ingredients are sourced from a Patagonian micro-climate within 100 square kilometers of the distillery’s water source. Local apple and pear varietals are used to create the base alcohol, and seven hand-picked native herbs and four native berries play an integral part creating the distinctive flavor profile. It is essentially a brandy base that is then infused like a gin. TRÄ-KÁL is versatile and can be enjoyed neat or on the rocks. A Boulevardier is traditionally composed of equal parts rye whiskey, sweet vermouth, and Campari, but our Spirits team put the following three twists on the classic cocktail: We used Bear Creek’s Rye Whiskey produced right here in Denver, Colorado. We swapped out Campari for Aperol. Aperol is an aperitif like Campari, but less bitter, milder, and contains less alcohol. We added a few dashes of Strongwater Amores – Chocolate Vanilla Bitters Combine 1.5 ounces of rye whiskey, Aperol, and vermouth in rocks glass with ice. Add three to four dashes of bitters.
