In the area, agriculture was incredibly important to the livelihood of the families who lived nearby, which led to increased wine and olive production over the years. The founder of Tenuta Coeli Auli, Giuseppe Barni, established the wine business within the historic parish grounds. He purchased the Monti farm in 1949 to grow his vines while emphasizing vineyard care and increased production. Today, the family’s fourth generation runs the estate and maintains the same goals as their ancestors – to care for the vineyards while also respecting nature. They began converting all of their production to organic farming in 2015 and are now a fully-organic winery. The Grapes The Tenuta Coeli Aula estate is located in the hills of Montespertoli, just outside of Florence. It differentiates Villa Monti by sourcing fruit from vineyards that receive good afternoon warmth and plenty of sun exposure, resulting in ample ripeness. While they do grow international vines, like Merlot, Cabernet, Chardonnay and Sauvignon Blanc, the majority of the vines they grow are Sangiovese, including over 29 different clones. Sustainability, protection of native vines and biodiversity are the key components of their philosophy.
