Behind The Vine - Colterris Winery
A lot of thought went into the name “Colterris”. It was derived by combining a three letter abbreviation of Colorado “Col” with the Latin word “terris” meaning from the land. By combining the two abbreviations, this defines Colterris as “from the Colorado land.” The name is very fitting since all their wines are produced from 100% Colorado grapes.
The Colterris vineyard is located in Palisade on Colorado’s beautiful and picturesque Western Slope. The Grand Valley AVA produces world-class wine grapes high in quality and distinction. The favorable eco-climate, volcanic soils and waters of the mighty Colorado River contribute to the rich color, intense fruit flavors and characteristics that make Colterris wines unique.
All Colterris wines are 100% “Estate Grown”. When a wine is described as “Estate Grown” in the United States, it has met very specific requirements. For starters, 100% of the wine must be made from grapes either grown on land owned by the winery or controlled by the winery. The vineyards also must be in an American Viticultural Area (AVA). Colterris meets both requirements with all their grapes grown in vineyards located in the Grand Valley AVA.
Another key requirement is that the winery must crush and ferment the grapes it grows, age and finish the wine, then bottle (or can) the wine on its own premises and in a continuous process. At Colterris, the wine never leaves the premises at any time during its production. We’re impressed with all that they are able to accomplish!

Varietal: Cabernet Sauvignon
Alcohol: 13.5% ABV
Color: Unlike traditionally-made Cabernet Sauvignon, the fermentation process for Coral excludes contact with the grape skins, yielding a very lightly-colored blush wine.
Taste: Berry-driven aromatic profile of strawberry and raspberry. A bright acidity keeps the wine fresh and balanced on the palate with a touch of residual sugar.

“Good wine from Colorado?! Yes, please! You have to do yourself a favor and try Coral, a white cabernet sauvignon. They name it Coral due to the color; it does remind you of snorkeling or scuba diving in the Cayman Islands. However, you can’t go wrong with any varietal.”
