Behind The Vine

Overview

Juvé & Camps is a family-owned winery located in San Sadurní d’Anoia, a small town in the Northeastern Penedès region near Barcelona. Founded in 1921 by Joan Juvé Baqués and his wife Teresa Camps Farré, the winery’s three-generation history has resulted in an international reputation for producing top-quality sparkling wines.

Philosophy

Juvé & Camp’s philosophy has been to use only traditional, high-quality winemaking practices. They produce their Cavas in the método tradicional, meaning they undergo a secondary, in-bottle fermentation prompted by the addition of yeast and sugar. The wines are often aged in the bottle for 18 months or more.

Varietal: Pinot Noir

ABV: 12.0%

Country: Spain

Color: Cherry red

Taste: Ripe cherry and strawberry notes enveloped in honey, toasted bread and a faint floweriness. It is intense, fresh and exuberant in the mouth, with a rich, aromatic finish.

Pairings: Sushi, salmon or other meaty fish dishes.

Molly's Staff Thoughts - Scott's Pick

“The most exquisite Sparkling Wines in the world include Pinot Noir and Chardonnay. The roots of the vines intermingle with limestone and chalk. The growing region is cool and defined by a steady diurnal temperature change, often as a result of the cooling effect of water or elevation. The vineyards are usually arid and the grape growers are likely hands off. Juve & Camps checks all these boxes.

There is no sparkling wine in the store that pleases me more for the money than this 100% Pinot Noir from Northeastern Spain. Juvé & Camps offers lots of red berry fruit and a hint of cherry pit bitterness to create a little tension. It’s happiness in a bottle!”
